  • There is no list of “prohibited dogs” for owners.
  • Offers several discounts for timely payments.

CONS

  • The coverages are not customizable or extendable. 
  • They have a significant number of complaints from their customers.

What are Allstate’s coverage options?

  • Housing: damage to the main structure.
  • Other structures: Also covers damage to nearby structures on your property, such as patios or sheds.
  • Personal property: works as coverage for personal items within the house.
  • Civil liability: damage to other people’s property as a result of what happens to your house.
  • Living Expenses: This covers all expenses related to food and lodging while your home is repaired or replaced.

What are Allstate’s additional coverages?

  • Registered Personal Property: Damage to registered property, such as jewelry or collectibles.
  • Drains and Sumps: Overflows from drains, sumps, or wastewater.
  • Sports Equipment: Covers sports equipment starting at a specific value.
  • Replacement of appliances with “green” appliances: loss of appliances, as long as they are replaced by low-energy consumption appliances.
  • Musical instruments: damage or loss of musical instruments as long as you can prove that they are your property.
  • Computer Data Recovery: Covers the cost of recovering lost computer expenses, including photos.

Farmers Insurance

It is on our list of cheap home insurance because in two states, specifically, it represents the lowest policy among all companies. This is a good option if you are in:

  • Alabama: $607. 
  • Utah: $435.
  • Nevada: $766.
  • Virginia: $715.

  • Discount for new homes.
  • Discount for paying installments on time.
  • Unlike other insurers, Farmers does not have a list of dogs exempt from coverage.

CONS

It is not available in all states in the country.

What are Farmer’s coverage options?

  •  Housing: covers damage and repairs to the structure of the house.
  • Living Expenses: Expenses for temporary lodging, food, and general expenses while housing is replaced or rebuilt.
  • Personal property: replacement of items such as appliances or furniture. However, high-value items (such as jewelry) may require an extension of the policy.
  • Civil liability: serves to cover damage incurred to other people’s property if the damage is considered to be your responsibility.

What are Farmers’ additional coverages?

  • Flood Insurance – Additional flood cover covers damage from overflowing rivers or damage caused by the sea.
  • Earthquake insurance: structural damage caused by an earthquake (under no circumstances does this fall into standard coverage).
  • Personal Property: Damage to or loss of high-value property (such as jewelry or collectibles).

Country Financial

Country Financial is one of the cheap home insurance policies that may be especially convenient for you if you live in:

  • Alaska: $1,035.

  • Housing: damage to the main property.
  • Other structures: damage to surrounding structures, such as sheds or patios.
  • Social responsibility: expenses for damages or lawsuits against the owner related to other people’s property.
  • Living Expenses: Expenses for temporary lodging, food, and general expenses during the time of housing repair or replacement.

What are Country Financial’s additional coverages?

  • Coverage Extension: Up to 120% more financing above the initial coverage limit if repair or replacement costs exceed the estimated budget. 
  • Sinks or sewers: covers damages related to sinks and sewers.
  • Identity replacement: up to $25,000 in financing to cover processes related to identity theft.

Progressive

If you are looking for cheap home insurance, Progressive is a good option. Especially if you are in any of these cities:

  • Georgia: $833.
  • Kentucky: $1.218. 
  • Tennessee: $$1.085.
  • Connecticut: $546.
  • Arizona: $723.

  • Much lower rates than the competition.
  • It has a tool called “Name Your Price” that allows you to anticipate what the value of your policy could be.
  • It has a very good track record of processing claims.

CONS

  • It is not possible to extend the policies or customize them.
  • It has a “no-dog” list that may make some people ineligible for the company.

What are Progressive’s coverage options?

  • Housing: damage to the main home.
  • Other structures: damage to structures close to the home (such as sheds or garages).
  • Personal property: insures property inside the house, such as appliances or furniture.
  • Civil liability: damages or claims related to other people’s property that could be affected under your responsibility.
  • Living expenses: food, lodging, and others that may arise while waiting for the repair or replacement of the affected property.

What are Progressive’s additional coverages?

  • Sewer or drainage: expenses caused by overflows of sinks or drains.
